“We are either men and women built for ourselves, or we are men and women built for others.”
– Tom Flick, Leadership Speaker.
Picture in mind the first person you can think of when you hear the word “SUCCESS.”
Great. Now, allow me to burst your bubble about that image. Let’s face it. We all know that nobody is great from the very beginning.
Before that basketball player became successful, he was first unsuccessful. There were shots fired that has not been shot, there were countless of games that has been lost, and there were hard days of training just to be better than yesterday.
Before that actress became famous, she was one of those lining up and getting knock-back in every audition. She was one of those extras which you cannot even recognize that was passing by at the back of the protagonist. She was one of those waiting for a phone call that would say the magical line “APPROVED!.” She was the one who attended hundreds of workshops just to be better in her craft.
Before that entrepreneur boomed the business, he had faced tons of rejections. There were times were as if nobody was listening to him. There were times where people did not even want to see him. There were times where he had been ignored. There were times where everybody did not believe in him. Then there was the time when he continued to introduce himself to all the people until he found the one who will actually listen, see, and believe in him.
They may all have different struggles but it is the same way to all of us, and to that particular person in your mind right now.
It was never an easy road. These people have started from the bottom. They have faced the rejections, the lost, the hurt, the storm , the exhaustion but they did not stop. These entities seemed like nothing compared to their goals, compared to their dreams, compared to what they wanted to achieve. They continued to look forward to reach the top, because they were too focused on their destination. They were ones the man and woman built for themselves, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
As time goes by, they became greater than they were. They have expanded their knowledge and skills, and as they move closer to their objective, they commence to see their past selves in other people. For they have glanced back to the past, they begin to encourage, advice, and help these new people. They are becoming a man and woman built for others. For true leaders do not sympathize but they empathize.
As we begin this new year, almost all of us have said the famous line “New year, new me.” In order to achieve this target, you should be willing to get out of your comfort zone and try something new. You should begin to think ahead and be more willing. Find your own arena to dwell on. Of course, nobody said it was easy but you must continue to fight. Be head on to your battle for your only rival is yourself.
Financial Advising is a tough job. Eagerness and dedication are very important in this industry. Not all Filipinos know the importance of Financial Advisors, so we must be desirous to introduce ourselves over and over again. We must stand firm and tall for we are representing a very dignified job because every family needs us.
As a new chance is awaiting for you, this is the best time for you to start. Do not miss the opportunity that is knocking on your door, instead welcome it with open arms; because for now, you may be a man or a woman built for yourself, and maybe in time you might be a man or a woman built for others.
